Which pound notes do we accept?
We take Bank of England notes in all four values: £5, £10, £20 and £50. Every one of them goes at the GBP rate on this page, fivers and tenners included. The name of the issuing bank is printed across the top of each note.
| Notes | Values | How we exchange them |
|---|---|---|
| Bank of England polymer, with a clear window | £5, £10, £20, £50 | at the GBP rate on this page |
| Bank of England paper, no window | £5, £10, £20, £50 | not accepted |
| Banks in Scotland and Northern Ireland | all | not accepted |
All current Bank of England notes are polymer, and you can tell them by the clear window that the old paper notes do not have. Since 5 June 2024 the Bank has been issuing notes with the portrait of King Charles III. Notes with Queen Elizabeth II remain legal tender, and we exchange both at the same rate.
We do not accept paper notes. The paper £5 stopped being legal tender in 2017, the £10 in 2018, and the £20 and £50 at the end of September 2022. You can still exchange them with the Bank of England, including by post, and there is no deadline.
We do not accept Scottish or Northern Irish notes either. Local commercial banks issue them, for example Bank of Scotland, Royal Bank of Scotland and Ulster Bank. We also do not take coins or damaged notes. Read the exchange rules
Which rate applies to you?
Changing pounds into złoty. Select GBP under “You give” and PLN under “You get”. You get our “We buy” rate: the number of złoty we pay you for £1.
Buying pounds with złoty, for example before a trip to the UK. Select PLN under “You give” and GBP under “You get”. You pay our “We sell” rate: the number of złoty £1 costs you.
The “We sell” rate is higher than the “We buy” rate. We earn on that gap, the spread, so we charge no commission in either direction.
How many złoty will I get for £100?
Multiply 100 by the “We buy” rate and you have the złoty you get for £100. If you are buying pounds, multiply 100 by the “We sell” rate. The note value makes no difference: five £20 notes get the same rate as two £50 notes. We have worked out common amounts below, at the rate on the card at the top of the page.
| Amount | We buy GBP → you get | We sell GBP → you pay |
|---|---|---|
| GBP Bank of England polymer notes, £5 to £50 Based on the rate of | ||
| 20 GBP | 103.00 PLN | 104.00 PLN |
| 50 GBP | 257.50 PLN | 260.00 PLN |
| 100 GBP | 515.00 PLN | 520.00 PLN |
| 200 GBP | 1,030.00 PLN | 1,040.00 PLN |
| 500 GBP | 2,575.00 PLN | 2,600.00 PLN |
| 1,000 GBP | 5,150.00 PLN | 5,200.00 PLN |
We do not accept paper notes or Scottish and Northern Irish notes.

Why our rate differs from the one on Google
Search “pound to zloty” and Google shows you a single number: the mid-market rate from the interbank market, halfway between buying and selling, with no cost of handling cash. The National Bank of Poland (NBP) publishes its own mid-rate on business days. We use it, for example, to check whether a transaction reaches the EUR 15,000 threshold for ID. At a counter you trade at a buy rate or a sell rate, so compare those two numbers.
When you compare exchange offices in Warsaw, check five things:
- Both rates together, because the gap between buying and selling is what the exchange costs you. The smaller it is, the less you lose when you buy pounds before a trip and sell the rest when you get back.
- Which notes the rate covers. Ours covers every Bank of England polymer note from £5 to £50.
- Whether there is a commission. Ours is 0 PLN, whatever the amount.
- When the rate was last updated. We change ours by hand during the day and show the date and time of the last change on the rate card.
- Whether the online rate applies at the counter, and whether the office is in the NBP register. Our rate applies as long as you quote it before the exchange begins, and you can check our entry, number 20550, in the NBP search.
Do you need pounds or złoty in Warsaw?
Poland uses the Polish złoty (PLN). Shops, restaurants and public transport in Warsaw charge in złoty, so change your pounds before you head out if you want cash for your stay. If you have złoty left at the end of your trip, change them back into pounds at the same counter at the “We sell” rate.
Reserve the rate before you come
- Pick GBP and the amount in the calculator.
- Click “Reserve this rate” and leave your phone number and email address.
- Check the currencies, the direction of the exchange and the amount, then send the request.
- Come to the counter within 60 minutes, and before closing time.
Reservations are available only during opening hours, excluding public holidays. The rate is valid for up to 60 minutes from submission, but no later than closing time. A reservation does not guarantee cash availability. If the amount you need is unavailable, we will call you.
When do you need ID?
We ask for photo ID (a passport, national ID card or residence card) for any transaction equivalent to EUR 15,000 or more at the NBP mid-rate for the day. We may also ask for ID in other cases provided for by anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing law, including for lower amounts.

What is the pound rate today at Kantor X?
Check the rate card at the top of the page. “We sell GBP → you pay PLN” is what £1 costs you at the counter, with no commission, and “We buy GBP → you get PLN” is what we pay you for £1. The card shows the date and time of the last change, and the table above has the amounts for £20 to £1,000.
How many złoty will I get for £100?
100 times our “We buy” rate, with no commission. The rate is the same for every Bank of England polymer note, so five £20 notes get you as much as two £50 notes. The table above has the result at today’s rate.
Do you accept notes with Queen Elizabeth II?
Yes. The Bank of England says polymer notes with the Queen’s portrait remain legal tender and circulate alongside the King Charles III notes issued since June 2024. We exchange both at the GBP rate on this page.
Can I exchange old paper £20 and £50 notes?
Not with us. Paper Bank of England notes are no longer legal tender: the £5 since 2017, the £10 since 2018 and the £20 and £50 since the end of September 2022. The Bank of England still exchanges them, including by post, with no deadline.
Do you accept Scottish or Northern Irish notes?
No. We exchange Bank of England notes only. Scottish and Northern Irish notes come from commercial banks such as Bank of Scotland or Ulster Bank, and the issuer’s name is printed at the top of the note.
Is the online rate valid at the counter?
Yes. Quote the online rate before the exchange begins. If you are coming from across town, reserve the rate online: it is valid for up to 60 minutes from submission, but no later than closing time.
Do you charge commission?
No. Commission is 0 PLN for any amount. We earn on the difference between our buy and sell rates, and you can see both before you visit.
Are you open on Sundays and public holidays?
On Sundays we are open from 11:00 to 20:00, including non-trading Sundays. We close on 1 November, 24 to 26 December, 1 and 6 January, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, and keep our usual hours on the other public holidays.
