Which Australian dollar notes do we accept?
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) issues the notes, all of them polymer today: A$5, A$10, A$20, A$50 and A$100. A$50 and A$100 notes go at the AUD rate on this page. We also take A$5, A$10 and A$20 notes, but the cashier sets the rate for those.
| Notes | Values | How we exchange them |
|---|---|---|
| Polymer | A$50, A$100 | at the AUD rate on this page |
| Polymer | A$5, A$10, A$20 | at a rate set by the cashier |
| Paper | all | not accepted |
| Coins, including $1 and $2 | all | not accepted |
Polymer notes circulate in two series. The RBA issued the first between 1992 and 1996, and its notes have a small clear window. It issued the new series between 2016 and 2020, with a clear window that runs from the top of the note to the bottom. Both series are legal tender.
We do not accept paper notes. Australia replaced them with polymer notes between 1992 and 1996, although they are still legal tender. According to the RBA, most commercial banks in Australia will redeem them at face value.
We do not take coins either, the $1 and $2 coins included, so spend your change before you leave Australia. We also do not accept damaged notes. Read the exchange rules
The Australian dollar has its own line and its own rate in our table, separate from the US dollar. For US dollars, see our US dollar exchange rate page.
Which rate applies to you?
Changing Australian dollars into złoty. Select AUD under “You give” and PLN under “You get”. You get our “We buy” rate: the number of złoty we pay you for 1 Australian dollar.
Buying Australian dollars with złoty, for example before a trip to Australia. Select PLN under “You give” and AUD under “You get”. You pay our “We sell” rate: the number of złoty 1 Australian dollar costs you.
The “We sell” rate is higher than the “We buy” rate. We earn on that gap, the spread, so we charge no commission in either direction.
How many złoty will I get for A$100?
Multiply 100 by the “We buy” rate and you have the złoty you get for A$100 in fifties or hundreds. If you are buying Australian dollars, multiply 100 by the “We sell” rate. The table below covers amounts you can make up from A$50 and A$100 notes, from A$50 to A$1,000, at the rate on the card at the top of the page.
| Amount | We buy AUD → you get | We sell AUD → you pay |
|---|---|---|
| AUD A$50 and A$100 notes Based on the rate of | ||
| 50 AUD | 134.00 PLN | 136.50 PLN |
| 100 AUD | 268.00 PLN | 273.00 PLN |
| 200 AUD | 536.00 PLN | 546.00 PLN |
| 300 AUD | 804.00 PLN | 819.00 PLN |
| 500 AUD | 1,340.00 PLN | 1,365.00 PLN |
| 1,000 AUD | 2,680.00 PLN | 2,730.00 PLN |
Amounts apply to exchanges in A$50 and A$100 notes.
The rates are for information only and do not constitute an offer within the meaning of art. 66 of the Polish Civil Code.
For any other amount, use the calculator; the cashier sets the rate for A$5, A$10 and A$20 notes. For a larger sum, call before your visit to check we have the cash.
Why our rate differs from the one on Google
Search “AUD to PLN” and Google shows you a single number: the mid-market rate from the interbank market, halfway between buying and selling, with no cost of handling cash. The National Bank of Poland (NBP) publishes its own mid-rate for the Australian dollar on business days. We use it, for example, to check whether a transaction reaches the EUR 15,000 threshold for ID. At a counter you trade at a buy rate or a sell rate, so compare those two numbers.
When you compare exchange offices in Warsaw, check five things:
- Both rates together, because the gap between buying and selling is what the exchange costs you. The smaller it is, the less you lose when you buy Australian dollars before a trip and sell the rest when you get back.
- Which notes the rate covers. Ours covers A$50 and A$100 notes; the cashier sets the rate for smaller notes.
- Whether there is a commission. Ours is 0 PLN, whatever the amount.
- When the rate was last updated. We change ours by hand during the day and show the date and time of the last change on the rate card.
- Whether the online rate applies at the counter, and whether the office is in the NBP register. Our rate applies as long as you quote it before the exchange begins, and you can check our entry, number 20550, in the NBP search.
Do you need Australian dollars or złoty in Warsaw?
Poland uses the Polish złoty (PLN). Shops, restaurants and public transport in Warsaw charge in złoty, so change your Australian dollars before you head out if you want cash for your stay. If you have złoty left at the end of your trip, you can buy Australian dollars back at our “We sell” rate. For a larger amount, call ahead to check we have the cash.
Reserve the rate before you come
- Pick AUD and the amount in the calculator.
- Click “Reserve this rate” and leave your phone number and email address.
- Check the currencies, the direction of the exchange and the amount, then send the request.
- Come to the counter within 60 minutes, and before closing time.
Reservations are available only during opening hours, excluding public holidays. The rate is valid for up to 60 minutes from submission, but no later than closing time. A reservation does not guarantee cash availability. If the amount you need is unavailable, we will call you.
When do you need ID?
We ask for photo ID (a passport, national ID card or residence card) for any transaction equivalent to EUR 15,000 or more at the NBP mid-rate for the day. We may also ask for ID in other cases provided for by anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing law, including for lower amounts.
